What is the New Mexico Classical Guitar Festival?

The New Mexico Classical Guitar Festival is a four-day event, June 18-21, 2020,  in Albuquerque, featuring concerts, workshops, masterclasses, guitar ensembles, and vendors. Enjoy meeting fellow guitarists who share the passion for the classical guitar. Students will have the opportunity to perform in a guitar ensemble, attend workshops, perform in a masterclass, visit with vendors and attend outstanding concerts by guitar professionals. Students range in age from 10 to 70+.

Adult Track18 and above

Adult Track Registration

Adult Track 18 years old and above.
The Adult track is for the intermediate to advanced level guitarist. The $250 price includes: festival workshops, 1 ticket to each evening concert, and participation in either the Guitar Orchestra or Adult Ensemble

Early Registration-$200 if registered before April 1, 2020

Guitar Orchestra or Adult Ensemble
Adult Track Participants may choose Either one

The Guitar Orchestra is intended for the advanced guitarists. Participants will have the opportunity to play with fellow advanced musicians. This ensemble is intended for High School and College Students, Guitar Directors, and Professionals. Music level: advanced. Please see Festival schedule for more information. The ensemble will perform at the Festival Showcase Concert on June 21, 2020. The ensemble will be conducted by Scott Borg. 

The Adult Ensemble is intended for the non-professional, adult aficionado guitarist. Participants will have the opportunity to work with fellow guitarists who share a love for the guitar, enjoy meeting new friends as well as reuniting with guitarists from past festivals. Music level: intermediate to advanced. Please check Festival schedule for more information. The ensemble will perform at the Festival Showcase Concert on June 21, 2020. The ensemble will be conducted by Mickey Jones. 

Masterclasses

Adult Track masterclasses are by audition only. Participants will need to submit a recording and complete registration materials to be considered for performing in masterclasses. But all festival participants may audit masterclasses.

Workshops

Workshops look to motivate students to explore the guitar and develop skills more fully on the instrument.
Adult workshops will help students explore and expand their guitar technique/knowledge.

must be at least 14 years old, High School Through College age

Student Track-must be at least 14 years old
The Student track is for the advanced level student; high school through college age, participants must be at least 14 years old-The $175 price includes: festival workshops, participation in Guitar Orchestra, does not include tickets to evening concerts; High School and College students must be enrolled in school and have valid school ID; Home school students in High School should register in this category.

Guitar Orchestra

The Guitar Orchestra is intended for the advanced guitarists. Participants will have the opportunity to play with fellow advanced guitarists. This ensemble is intended for High School and College Students, Guitar Directors, and Professionals. Music level: advanced. Please see Festival schedule for more information. Youth Track-ages 10 through 14

The Youth Track is intended for the younger guitarist aged 10-14 years old. Price includes: participation in Youth Ensemble and Youth Workshop. Does not include tickets to evening concerts. Please see schedule for Youth Track activities and description of Youth Ensemble.

Youth Ensemble

The Youth Ensemble is intended for the younger student, ages 10-14. Students will have the opportunity to share their skills with other talented youngsters. Ensemble music will be multi-leveled; challenging for the advanced younger student as well as appropriate for those at the intermediate level. Please check Festival schedule for more information. The ensemble will perform at the Festival Showcase Concert on June 21, 2020.

Masterclass

Youth Track will have an informal masterclass. Audition not required.

Workshops

Youth Track workshop will be interactive with clinician and students sharing their talents on the guitar.
